CLUG Projects: Challenges for GNSS in the railway environment
Several factors are affecting GNSS in the railway environment, and they need to be acknowledged in a CENELEC conform process. Some of the GNSS feared events to be considered are listed below:
ENAC engineers in the CLUG project: limiting multipath error
ENAC (Ecole Nationale de l’Aviation Civile) is the French Civil Aviation University specializing in all aspects of the air traffic system including communications navigation and surveillance. ENAC is taking a role of contributing to local GNSS error modelling and integrity in CLUG project.
EGNOS an Enabler for Safe Railway Localization
Airbus Defence and Space and its partners are working side by side in the CLUG project (Certifiable Localisation Unit with GNSS) to design the future rail safe location system. The studied solution TLOBU (Train Localisation On Board Unit) heavily relies on EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service), delivering Safety of Life services for Aviation since 2011, and evaluated in CLUG for its suitability for Safety of Life applications for European trains.
